Senegambian Languages are a sub group of Niger-Congo Languages, which are also called Northern Atlantic Languages. The main speakers are in Senegal and Gambia, as well as neighboring countries like Mauritania, Guinea-Bissau and Guinea.
There are 3 main languages in this branch.
- Wolof, the official language of Senegal, has 4 million native speakers and several million second-language speakers. Wolof courses are offered in IU regularly.
- Fula, of several dialects, sometimes called "Fulfulde", is spoken by 13 million speakers.Fulfulde is on the CeLT language list
- Serer, has over a million speaker, mainly spoken by Serer people living in West Africa.
