Language learning doesn’t only have to happen in the classroom! Mobile and online platforms, such as Duolingo, are a popular way to study and review. As part of the Bloomington community, you may even have access to some of these premium resources for free!
Duolingo is a free (with optional paid features) mobile app and website with game-like short lessons that include reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Courses are offered in over 40 target languages, many of which offer support for both native speakers of English and other native languages.
Mango Languages is a paid learning tool (website and mobile app) that is available for free to members of the Bloomington community who are patrons of the Monroe County Public Library. Mango Languages offers courses in over 70 languages, with focus on listening and reading. MCPL patrons can find access information at this link.
Rosetta Stone is another paid learning tool (website and mobile app)that is made available for free to the members of the Bloomington community who are patrons of the Monroe County Public Library. Rosetta Stone offers courses in 25 languages that consist of short, “bite-sized” lessons that utilize the immersive approach to language learning. Mondly is a free and/or paid language learning service, available since 2014. Since May 2022, it has been a part of Pearson, a famous incorporation of educational publishing and service.
The free version offers limited experience of learning a language with your native languages (as long as it is in the 33 languages now it covers). If you chose its premium plan, you would have access to its versatile learning materials. It also can work with certain AR/VR device to enable a virtual learning environment.
