About Arabic
IU is home to a thriving Arabic language program that offers all levels of Modern Standard Arabic, as well courses on the history, culture, and politics of the Middle East. Several Arabic dialects, including Moroccan and Levantine, are also offered.
Arabic is the official language of 22 countries, as well as one of the six official languages of the United Nations. Arabic is spoken by approximately 300 million people around the globe, with large populations of native speakers in the Middle East and North Africa.
In addition to standard language study, IU students may also join the Arabic Flagship program to gain professional proficiency in the language and in-depth cultural knowledge.
Over the summer, Arabic is available as an intensive immersion program as part of the Language Workshop.
