Online Language Programs at IU

Language Courses via Videoconferencing

Students have the opportunity to take language courses offered at Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) institutions via synchronous distance learning, so they may learn necessary languages without needing to relocate or transfer schools. The CourseShare framework allows students to register for shared language courses at the same time and in the same manner as for regular courses at their own institutions. Grades and credits are reported on the student’s home university transcript and there are no additional fees associated with shared courses. Visit our BTAA information and FAQ page to learn more.

Online Language Classes through IU

You can search for fully online language courses by visiting the iGPS tool. Designate the IU campus and term, and then you can search by department or input a keyword (such as the name of a language).

Use the iGPS filters to narrow the results by mode of instruction (% of the course online). Read definitions of the course modes of instruction at IU below.

Be aware that some 100% online language courses which appear through this search method are available at IU through the BTAA program (described above), which others are offered by IU directly.
