Language Information
Zyrian, also called Komi, is part of the Permic branch of the Uralic language family. Zyrian is the language of the Komi (Zyrian) people who mainly live in the Komi Republic in northwestern Russia. There are several dialects of Zyrian spoken across the region.
Zyrian is written with a modified Cyrillic alphabet, which adds four additional characters. Currently, the language has around 100,000 native speakers.
Zyrian is not currently taught at Indiana University.
