Language Information
Tamil is a South Asian language in the Dravidian family, and is one of the oldest surviving languages in the world. Tamil is an official language of the sovereign nations of Sri Lanka and Singapore, the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, and the Union Territory of Puducherry. It is also spoken by in other southern Indian states and Malaysia. Tamil is one of the 22 scheduled languages in the Constitution of India.
Tamil is not currently taught at Indiana University.
