Language Information
Tajik, often called Tajiki Persian, is a variety of Persian spoken by the Tajik people living primarily in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Additional Tajik speakers can be found in Afghanistan, Russia, and other parts of the region.
Tajik is a West Iranian language and an official language of Tajikistan, along with Russian. It is written with the Cyrillic script. Tajik, Dari, and Iranian Persian are all believed to be the continuation of the ancient language: Middle Persian.
Tajik is not currently taught at Indiana University, but we do have access to archived materials (listed below).
