Language Information:
Tagalog (Filipino) is one of two national languages of the Philippines, along with English, where around 115 million people live. Outside of the Philippines, however, the largest concentration of Tagalog speakers is found in the United States, where 1.7 million people speak the language at home, according to the 2019 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau.
At Indiana University, Tagalog is offered each year through the Department of Southeast Asian & ASEAN Studies, with beginning and intermediate levels available.
