Language Information
Arikara (or Sáhniš) is a Caddoan language spoken by the indigenous Arikara community, primarily living in North Dakota. Arikara is an endangered language, with declining numbers of elders who speak it fluently.
The Indiana University Institute for Indigenous Knowledge is actively engaged in a language preservation initiative in collaboration with the White Shield School District (North Dakota). Learn more about the Arikara Language Program at the IIK's website here.
