Language Learner Lounge Series
In this exciting online event, students with overseas experience and the director of the Overseas Studies and Scholarship Program at IU will share their language learning stories. The Language Learner Lounge series is open to both those who are enrolled in a language course and those who are simply interested in learning foreign/second languages.
Goals of the event:
- to meet peers who have similar interest
- to share language learning tips and experiences
- to support and motivate each other
- to get to know experts in language instruction
- to form a community of language learners
Presenters
Avery Wise is a junior double majoring in International Studies and Korean. She has studied Korean both at IU and through Yonsei University’s Korean language school in Seoul. Avery is currently doing an independent study of advanced level Korean with faculty at the Hamilton Lugar School, with plans to spend her senior year abroad in Korea furthering both her language and academic studies.
Elizabeth Lewis went to study abroad in Japan through the Nanzan Program. Her major is East Asian Languages and Culture and a minor in Animal Behavior. She has been studying Japanese for over 6 years and finally decided to move on and study Korean.
Ochmaa D. Escue is the director of the Overseas Studies and Scholarship Program within the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs (OVPDEMA) at Indiana University (IU), Bloomington. In her role, Ochmaa oversees the OVPDEMA study abroad scholarship as well as the development and administration of short-term study abroad programs tailored to students in the OVPDEMA academic scholarship programs such as Groups, 21st Century and Hudson and Holland Scholars program. To promote study abroad participation among first-generation, low-income, and minority students, Ochmaa works with IU departments/units and external organizations to host study abroad panels, workshops, and events on campus, increasing awareness to the benefits of studying abroad.
