It is possible to turn online connections into real-life ones and create an online existence in many ways. Israel Herrera is a full-time lecturer in Indiana University's Department of Spanish and Portuguese. Israel also volunteers his time as co-host of the "Hola Bloomington" radio show on local community-access station WFHB. Also, Israel hosts the Spanish radio show “Un cafecito con….” on WFHB 91.3FM and coordinates activities for the educational Latino program “La Escuelita para Todos.”
Daniel Suslak, an associate professor of anthropology at IU, is working on an innovative media project to document the Ayöök language and make the information available to community members in and around Totontepec, a community in a mountainous region of Oaxaca state in southern Mexico.
In this video, students in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, Elementary Arabic II, sing the Indiana University alma mater "Hail to Old IU" in Arabic, under the director of instructor Iman Alramadan.
This interdisciplinary panel addressed methodological and practical issues of authorship and voice identification, linguistic profiling, trademark and contract disputes, threat assessment, coerced confessions, cyber-security and NLP, among others (see Leonard et al., 2017), and feature an array of complementary perspectives from six experts from different departments. This event was organized by the Forensic Linguistics Club as part of the Linguistics Club at IU graduate conference, NICOLAS (New Interdepartmental Conference on Linguistics Area Studies), and was proudly sponsored by the departments of Linguistics, Criminal Justice, Computer Science (SICE), International Studies, Spanish and Portuguese, French and Italian, Germanic Studies, and Second Language Studies.

International Student Ambassadors (ISA) are the first resources at Indiana University for incoming international students. ISA members can advise, provide guidance, offer friendship, and suggest involvement tips to new and current students adjusting to life at IU.
Informal gatherings around the language table meetings are another opportunity to make friends and practicing language skills. Learn from your peers about an excellent way to keep up your language skills outside of class!
