General guidelines
- Full compliance with IU and local public health guidelines is expected, including:
- Routine hand washing or sanitization
- Face coverings
- Social distancing
- Any individuals with symptoms of illness must stay home or return home as soon as symptoms are discovered.
- If symptoms develop in an individual within 48 hours of leaving the check-out room, prompt notice is expected to be provided to check-out room staff
- Every surface that is touched often (desktop, doorknobs, telephone, computer keyboard, etc.) must be sanitized at the beginning of the day, and at the end of every shift.
- To clean items that aren’t particularly sensitive (desktops, doorknobs, cabinet handles, the microwave, the refrigerator, etc.), spray Oxivir onto a paper towel and wipe them, or use a sanitizing wipe.
- Clean computer keyboards, mice, telephones, etc. by spraying 70% alcohol solution onto a micro-fiber towel and wiping them carefully.
Guidelines for check-out room visitors
- Hand sanitizer will be provided and must be used by all individuals upon entering and exiting the check-out room and the equipment returning room
- Face coverings must be worn at all times.
- No unnecessary visitors or observers will be allowed in the check-out room at this time
- With respect to the brief close proximity required during equipment loan and setup, CeLT asks that chatting on topics not related to CeLT services during this time be limited
- Visitors are expected not to touch or reposition any equipment other than the equipment they have requested
General measures to be taken by CeLT
- Whenever possible, CeLT staff will work to limit contact in-person contact by:
- Arranging pre-determined pickup time and contact-less self-returning for loaned equipment. See details in the section on “Equipment Request, Checkout and Return Procedures”.
- Routine cleaning/sanitizing of check-out room spaces, before and after the space is used and regularly throughout the day
- Pick up times will be staggered to allow for thorough cleaning between visits
- A record of all in-person visits will be maintained in case of need for contact tracing
- Post health notice at check-out room entrance asking not to enter if symptomatic
- 6’ social distancing is expected between individuals whenever possible
- Face coverings will be worn by staff at all times
- No unnecessary visitors or observers will be allowed in CeLT spaces at this time
- Items requested for checkout will be sanitized before loaning
- Items returned will be physically quarantined for three days and then sanitized before return to circulation
- All items that are checked out will be sanitized in this manner regardless of the length of the check out.
Equipment Sanitization
All equipment will be routinely sanitized, to the best of CeLT’s ability, in accordance with manufacturer and CDC recommendations.
- Before beginning, gather all necessary materials and put on a fresh pair of gloves.
- Get a spray bottle which has been clearly labeled “Alcohol 70% solution” and, and fill it with 70% isopropyl alcohol. This is the cleaner you will use for digital/electronic equipment.
- Do not use a spray bottle that has not been labeled for alcohol.
- Never spray any cleaners directly onto the equipment.
- When possible, use lint-free cloths for cleaning sensitive equipment (headsets, camcorders, tablets).
- A new towel, cotton swab, etc., is to be used for each piece of equipment. Do not reuse cleaning supplies.
- Before returning equipment to storage after sanitizing, wipe down the storage area surface (shelf, etc.) with a sanitizing wipe.
See below for the sanitization steps for different equipment.
1)Moisten a clean paper towel with 70% alcohol solution. The paper towel should be damp but not saturated to the point of dripping.
2)Remove headset sanitary ear covers (if present).
3)Wipe the entirety of the headset’s hard surfaces with the towel, ensuring every area is visibly dampened. See “Cables” section before for info about disinfecting the cable. If some areas are difficult to reach with the towel, use a cotton swab that has been moistened with the alcohol solution.
4)Briefly run the damp towel over the foam ear pieces. You do not want to saturate the foam with alcohol, as this will degrade the material.
5)Let the headset air-dry fully before use.
6)Place fresh sanitary covers on the earpieces during the checkout procedure, ensuring the patron sees that the covers are new.
