Ostyak is now known as Khanty (Hanti). This is the language of the Khant peoples and is spoken in Khanty-mansi. There are several dialicets and according to the 1994 Salminen and Janhunen study, there were 12,000 khanty-speaking people in Russia.
This language is not currently taught at IU. We have one listening excercise from Dr. Alo Raun in our archive. Learn more about Khanty here.
